In this unique 90 minute LEAPS program, a panel of experts will report on and critique two actual domestic violence calls from the time they were received by 911 until the time the subjects were brought into custody. One call is flawlessly handled, with the 911 telecommunicator doing everything to prepare for the arrival of police and keeping police abreast of changes on scene from minute to minute; by contrast, we'll hear another call involving a perpetrator who is an armed, sworn, law enforcement officer and which was not handled well. This web program is a rare cooperation between mental health professionals from a domestic abuse shelter, county 911 and two responding police departments. The first 30 minutes of the program will be an anatomy of the calls in a 'just the facts' style. The next 60 minutes will be spent sharing insights and observations and fielding viewer's questions. Registered viewers of this web program will receive a copy of Blount County (TN) 911's Domestic Violence Protocol for call handling, a ten point 911 check list for working with the victims of domestic violence and 911 calling guidelines for victims of domestic violence from the Haven House shelter.
