In order to be successful in their quest to maintain staffing levels and to keep their communities safe agency heads must be to able to document their workloads and defend their need for personnel with hard, clear and accurate data.This web program describes strategies that can be used to arm agency heads with the solid data needed to prove their case and protect their staffs by documenting the need for 911 communicators, dispatchers, street patrol, and detectives. This one hour program shows how to accurately measure workload, determine if workload can be diverted, properly present information on how staff use time and develop measures for service levels impacted by staffing. By the end of this one hour session, participants will be able to improve the quality of their workload data and strengthen their case as well as having some examples of how to present their data that will clearly communicate workload and current performance in providing services. The information in this program is vital for public safety managers and policy makers who need to communicate their requirements regarding staffing and service levels required to keep their communities safe. [Recommend this LEAPS.TV program to a colleague.] Presenter Bio Peter Bellmio, Consultant Peter Bellmio is a criminal justice management consultant who provides services to clients throughout North America in the implementation of community-based crime control strategies and new patrol deployment systems. His client list includes Los Angeles, California, Charlotte, North Carolina, Seattle, Washington and Edmonton, Alberta, Calgary, Alberta, Waterloo Regional Police Service, and most recently the Hillsborough County, Florida Sheriff's Office.Before starting his own consulting practice, Mr. Bellmio served for three years as the Director of Public Safety for the City of Decatur, Illinois. The nearly 300 staff members of the Department are responsible for police, fire, emergency management, and emergency medical services delivered by the City. While in Decatur, he guided the implementation of problem oriented community policing with an emphasis on neighborhood involvement, youth issues, and crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED). Mr. Bellmio was also employed for seven years by Public Administration Service, a consulting firm founded in 1933 based in McLean, Virginia. At PAS, he supervised over 35 management studies of both police and fire departments throughout the United States. Mr. Bellmio served for a total of six years in police agencies in Newburgh, New York and Virginia Beach, Virginia as a crime analyst, crime analysis supervisor and director of planning research. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Albany.
